Automotive Testing Expo India Day 1: Envisys showcases its ETB-Series environmental test chambers for battery testing | Automotive Testing Technology International

Envisys Technologies is in Chennai to highlight the importance of conducting environmental tests on automotive battery packs, modular cells, and lithium-ion batteries to ensure their safety, reliability, and durability.

Dr Anil Kumar Kottani, director of Envisys Technologies, explained, “Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in electric vehicles, and they can experience extreme temperatures, humidity and other environmental conditions during their lifetime. Environmental tests can help identify potential issues and ensure they meet safety standards and regulations. High temperatures can cause thermal runaway, a dangerous condition in which the battery overheats and catches fire. The tests can help to identify the temperature range at which the battery is safe to operate, and how long it can withstand high temperatures. They can also evaluate the batteries’ resistance to vibration, shock and other mechanical stresses that can occur during the vehicle’s operation as well as the batteries’ ability to withstand exposure to salt, moisture and other contaminants that can cause corrosion and reduce the battery’s lifespan.” Martindale Abrasion Tester

The company’s chambers include temperature chambers to simulate extreme temperatures ranging from -70°C to +180°C; humidity chambers to evaluate the corrosion and moisture resistance of materials and components; thermal shock chambers to simulate rapid temperature changes; rain chambers to evaluate waterproofing and durability; solar radiation chambers; and altitude chambers. Envisys also offers customized environmental test chambers.

Prasannakeerti Magadum, manager of engineering and technology at Envisys, said, “Our ETB-Series environmental test chambers have been designed to test various types of batteries for electric vehicles, aerospace, consumer electronics and medical devices with accurate and repeatable test results. They cover all eight EUCAR safety levels as prescribed by the standards. EUCAR (European Council for Automotive R&D) is an industry body that sets standards for the automotive industry in Europe, including safety standards for lithium-ion batteries. Their safety features ensure safe operation of the test samples, including CO, O2 , H2 gas detection, heat detection, fire detection, emergency shut-off switches, over-temperature protection and overpressure protection, among others. Easy to use, their intuitive interfaces allow for precise programming and control of testing conditions.”

Explaining why Envisys Technologies chose Automotive Testing Expo India to present its ETB-Series environmental test chambers for battery testing, Dr Kottani said, “Firstly, the show is a leading exhibition for the automotive industry in India, providing a platform for companies to showcase their latest products and services related to automotive testing and validation. As our test chambers are designed specifically for the environmental testing of automotive battery packs, modular cells and lithium-ion batteries, the expo provided an ideal opportunity for the company to showcase its products to potential customers and industry experts.

“Secondly, India is a rapidly growing market for electric vehicles, with the government promoting the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce pollution and dependence on imported oil. As a result, there is a growing demand for battery testing and validation services in India, making it an attractive market for Envisys to showcase its products and services.

“Envisys is looking to meet a range of potential customers and industry experts, including battery manufacturers, automotive OEMs, testing and validation service providers and other companies involved in the automotive industry. By showcasing our products, we aim to demonstrate the capabilities of the ETB-Series environmental test chambers and establish the company as a leading provider of battery testing solutions in India and other markets.”
