India Tunnel Rescue | Barron's

An auger machine drilled 47m before being damaged by metal obstacles. Final meters are being dug by hand

An 89m vertical shaft and a 3m horizontal tunnel is being drilled from the top

Through the horizontal shaft, the workers could be pulled out using a wheeled stretcher along the 900mm wide pipe

If the vertical shaft is drilled successfully, the workers will be lifted out in a bucket-like apparatus

Rescue teams have been attempting to break through to the section of tunnel where 41 workers have been trapped since November 12. Two of the locations they are drilling will require different extraction methods
