The 25 best belt bags and fanny packs of 2023

Belt bags are just that, a pouch that is attached to an adjustable belt, usually with a clip closure that can easily be worn around your waist (above your fanny, so to speak) or draped over your chest, which is the new, trendy way to wear them.

Speaking of trendy, it seems like everyone is rocking the retro belt bags these days. Kylie Jenner reportedly has a collection worth over 50,000, according to a 2019 Page Six article, that we can only imagine has grown since then. Additional stars have been snapped wearing fanny packs including Beyoncé, Kristen Bell and Hailey Bieber to name a few.

From the infamous lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag to designer takes on the accessory like this fanny pack from Gucci, there’s no shortage of styles available.

If you want to join their ranks and rock a belt bag, now is the perfect time, especially with summer travel coming up and beach days ahead. We rounded up our favorites, from classic and casual fanny packs, those perfect for a fun festival and even some designer options that will elevate any look.

Chances are you’ve seen this belt bag everywhere. The lululemon bag is so popular, that it even has its own dedicated review here, to be sure every Post reader has the chance to get their hands on one.

Review: “Perfect for traveling and everyday activities.”

Make it mini. This Bellroy bag comes in a variety of colors and materials, including woven and a leather-free option. It has its own sunglasses pocket to protect your lenses, as well as two mesh pockets inside.

For a high fashion fanny pack, look no further. This belt bag from Hammitt is made with the details in mind, with a nubuck leather exterior, gold hardware, fringe and a hidden back pocket for your valuables, kept close to the body for safekeeping.

We love how versatile this belt bag from Madewell is. Wear as a fanny when you need to keep your arms free, and then convert to a crossbody or shoulder when you wish for a more sophisticated look. It has enough space for your smartphone, wallet and keys, plus it’s made with a water-resistant cotton to keep it in primo shape when you’re caught in the rain. Available in four colors.

Take a walk on the wild side and carry all your items with you. This belt bag is sold at Anthropologie, comes in a luxe cream color, and is complete with an adjustable clip-on belt to style as you please.

Reviews: “I like the size. It has several compartments to fit my money, cards, keys, phone and lipstick. Well made.”

City slickers need this sling bag. The Monos belt bag comes in nylon or vegan leather, with a total of seven colors. It also has a large, hidden back pocket for your most valuable items, as well as an interior pocket with a zipper closure.

Review: “Purchased two slings for our trip to Disneyland. We were excited to have 48 hours of jam-packed events across both parks. The slings were a fantastic purchase. Lightweight, easy to clean for the occasional snack stain, and held a lot of stuff. Most times I forgot that it was on me. So glad we made the purchase, and I can’t wait to take them on our next adventure.”

No need to head to Sweden to get your hands on a Fjällräven fanny pack. This belt bag is sold at Nordstrom and comes in a rainbow of colors, six to be exact. They are $55 each, making them an affordable option for any adventure, especially if it involved water, as these are water-resistant, too.

Whether you’re exploring the great outdoors or just running to the grocery store, this fanny pack will carry it all. The versatile style comes with an adjustable strap that you can wear as a crossbody pack or around your waist.

Review: “Finally a belt bag with the perfect sized spaces to fit my phone and small wallet without it looking like a big brick! Love [it]!”

For the designer look, go with Gucci. This belt bag can be found at Farfetch, for $1,100 on their site. The bag is a staple, coming in classic black leather with the iconic GG logo.

This belt bag is a classic, and gives a designer look for an affordable price. The Coach belt bag comes in the signature canvas pattern, with the brown and rust colored fabric and trimmings and the classic “C” logo.

Review: “Can easily hold keys, lipstick, small perfume and sunglasses. Trendy while leaving me hands-free. [It can also] be used with many outfits.”

We love this lululemon belt bag for running errands. It’s spacious without being bulky, has a hidden pocket in the back, and is made with water-resistant fabric. We like wearing it on bike rides. We can not only stash our keys and wallet, but a snack bar or two!

Why have just one pocket when you could have two? This Michale Kors zipper belt bag is a great one for travel or for when you want to pack a lot into a little cute bag. It comes in three colors, each with two zipper closures and the “MK” logo printed all over.

This option is perfect for the adventurous type, or those that value style and durability at the same time. The belt bag by Patagonia comes in an array of fun colors that are easy to sport outdoors, each coming with two pockets and an adjustable clip closure to wear around the waist or the chest while on the move.

Review: “I love this! I use it when I hike and even when I walk my dogs. It keeps my phone and keys (and doggie pick up bags) perfectly at hand, while also letting me keep my hands free for the dogs leashes.”

For a sleek, fresh take on a belt bag, check out this one from Quince. Not only are the color options perfect for year-round use, but the smooth Italian leather will add a functional yet chic upgrade to your outfit. One happy Quince customer called it the “Goldilocks” of belt bags. Here’s what else they had to say:

Review: “I truly cannot love this bag more. The design is minimalist, sleek, and not overly ‘street fashion.’ I really dislike the nylon belt bag look but wanted a belt bag, and this delivers! It’s the perfect size, too. I am getting it in more colors.”

Be hip and practical with this pack from Herschel. The Hip Pack belt bag is a great way to stay organized, as it comes with two zipper pockets and an adjustable strap. It also comes in 14 different colors, so you can stock up and never get bored.

Review: “Love using this bag for my travels overseas. Used it for my Asia trip and it was super handy! Highly recommend as it has a big enough pouch for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.”

If you like running, bike riding or shooting hoops, you know there’s nothing more annoying than wearing a clunky fanny pack in the process. That’s why we’re opting for this one from lululemon whenever we get our sweat on. It’s super slim, has just enough room for the basics, and is lightweight as they come! Use it to hold your phone or some cash and your keys. It’s available in four colors and multiple sizes, and also has reflective detail for visibility.

When you’re hiking you need a water bottle, so we love how this fanny pack has a place to stash it in. It’s also water-resistant, has two separate zippered pockets and an adjustable belt for comfortable movement. It’s available in a myriad of colors, too, and has more than 7,000 ratings on Amazon.

Review: “I recently joined a hiking club and started hiking regularly. I was using a small backpack to begin with but it gets hot during the summer, so I bought this. My water bottle fits perfectly and it holds a small towel, credit card, and keys. Perfect for a day hike!”

Add some retro back into your life with these neon fanny packs from Los Angeles Apparel. Perfect for the beach or any day in the sun, these nylon bags come in over 10 different colors, each with a zipper closure.

Whether slung over your shoulder or worn around the waist, this leather belt bag will catch the eye. It’s not only the pebbled texture that has us going gaga, but the serious metalware that makes the accessory look modern and luxe.

Not really keen on walking around with a diaper bag? That’s cool, because this belt bag has lots of space. It will probably be a bit too cumbersome to wear around the hips, but it works wonderfully as a sling backpack. Built for serious storage, you’ll be able to fit an umbrella, wallet, wipes and a diaper or two to hold you over till you’re back home with baby, no problemo!

Review: “I got this fanny pack to use as a diaper bag while on vacation! It can hold so much! I was able to put extra clothes, diapers, wipes, formula and toys in it!”

State what you need from a bag, and chances are State Bags can help. For a streamlined, leather belt bag, this is it. We love the crisp and clean white leather bag, but it also comes in a mesh black design as well.

Review: “Great everyday bag. I wear it as a crossbody and the strap is long enough to fit over my puffy winter jacket. Would lot to see card slots added on the side opposite the mesh pocket. I am planning to purchase in other colors.”

Dress this up or down, it’s stylish no matter how you wear it. This belt bag from Brahmin comes in either black or brown, made of the croc-embossed leather the brand is known for.

Review: “Finally, a Brahmin Fanny pack, body bag and shoulder bag! It’s the perfect, high quality everyday bag. Plus, it’s roomy enough for my cellphone. Worth the money!”

“Swoosh.” That is the sound of you throwing this belt bag over your arm and going off to the gym. The Nike Heritage is a perfect fanny pack for errands, too, with sustainable fabric and its cute, retro logo.

Review: “I ordered this over a year ago and use it almost every time I’m going out. Since I used [the other so much] it was starting to wear out, so I just ordered another one. It has two main pockets and one hidden pocket — I love it!”

Head to Abercrombie for this online-exclusive belt bag, now in both white and black. The unisex bag comes with two large front pockets and an adjustable strap to be worn around the waist or chest.

Review: “This was very much an impulse buy but has turned out to be a great addition to my closet! I only had one similar bag (bought [somewhere else]) and I didn’t realize how crammed it was until I got this bag. Aside from its carrying capacity, the color is lovely and versatile.”

Say “Aloha” to your new favorite belt bag. This one is made from water and weather-proof material, with a hardy zippy to keep everything inside safe and sound.

If you’re a member of Generation X, you probably remember wearing a belt bag or fanny pack as part of your daily ensemble. The accessory has been around since the 1950s (they were called day bags or bum-bags in those days), and were a favorite way to carry around small essentials, like a wallet, house key or tube of lipstick.

After disappearing from the fashion scene in the early 1990s, they are now back on everyone’s radar — and hips! We’ve seen them on celebs like Kendall Jenner and Sarah Jessica Parker, and there are more than 900k posts for the term #fannypack on instagram.

Unlike their clunky predecessors, the belt bags of today can be sleek and made from a variety of materials, ranging from polyester to genuine leather. They are also no longer only worn at the hip, but can be carried like a crossbody or worn with the pack across the bum.

Similiar to finding the right purse or wallet, it all comes down to what you need from a belt bag. Do you want something to replace your tote? Will it be for everyday or are you looking for a fun way to edge up a basic or conservative ensemble?

One fanny pack we like for daily use is the Bellroy Sling Mini ($90). It has four compartments for storage, is made of water-resistant fabric and has a slim build. It comes in a variety of bright colors, and looks very rad slung across one’s back.

Another fanny pack we like is the Fjällräven Kånken Water Resistant Belt Bag ($55). It’s compact, has a top carry handle and a two-way zip around closure to make it simpler to retrieve items inside. We really like this for weekends, sightseeing or any other occasion we’ll need to carry some things but want to avoid lugging around a backpack. It also doesn’t hurt that it comes in four different colors.

If you’re familiar with lululemon, you’re also probably familiar with the brand’s famous fanny pack called the Everywhere Belt Bag. Since its debut in 2020, it’s been a favorite of trendsetters and those who rock athleisure on the regular.

Today it’s available in a wide (and we mean wide) selection of sizes and colors. And recently, lululemon dropped the Everywhere Belt Bag in fleece ($68), making it a fun option for fall and winter. It has lots of pocket space like the other models but features the soft texture of the textile fiber, as well as eye-catching hardware.
